Naslov:Paving the way : contributions of interactive conflict resolution to peacemaking / edited by Ronald J. Fisher
Impresum:Lanham : Lexington Books , cop. 2005
Materijalni opis:X, 251 str. ; 23 cm
Jezik:engleski
Ključne riječi:konflikti * mirotvorstvo
Sažetak:This first-of-a-kind collection brings together in one volume the strongest available evidence of successful transfer effects from unofficial third-party work to official peacemaking. Using comparative case analysis from several real-world interventions, Paving the Way offers insights into the conditions and qualities of successful programs of interactive conflict resolution from experts in the field. Editor Ronald J. Fisher has assembled a collection of seminal case studies that illustrate interactive approaches to conflict resolution from the Malaysia-Indonesia conflict in the 1960s to the Peru-Equador peace process of the late 1990s. Integrating theory, research, and practice, the cases posit that interactive conflict resolution can make a significant, and sometimes essential, contribution to the resolution of protracted and violent identity conflicts. The methods and solutions offered in Paving the Way will serve as best practices for those in the field and as training tools and resources for scholars and policymakers.

Sažetak:Evaluates the most current scientific data on learning, teaching and learning environments. The objective of the book was to ascertain what is required for learners to reach deep understanding, to determine what leads to effective teaching and to evaluate the conditions that lead to supportive environments for teaching and learning. Six areas that are relevant to a deeper understanding of students' learning processes are explored: the role of prior knowledge in learning; plasticity and related issues of early experience upon brain development; learning as an active process; learning for understanding; adaptive expertise; and learning as a time-consuming endeavor. The book discusses research in another 5 areas that are relevant to teaching and environments that support effective learning: the importance of social and cultural contexts; transfer and the conditions for wide application of learning; subject matter uniqueness; assessment to support learning; and the new educational technologies.
Sadržaj:Part I: Introduction ..Learning: From speculation to science Part II: Learners and learning ..How experts differ from novices ..Learning and transfer ..How children learn ..Mind and brain Part III: Teachers and teaching ..The design of learning environments ..Effective teaching: Examples in history, mathematics, and science ..Teacher learning ..Technology to support learning Part IV: Future directions for the science of learning ..Conclusions and recommendations for research
